| 2002/2003
All the disappointment of last season was swept away
as the new team knitted together for the new cricketing year and what
a year it was to become. Paul Hartle and company proved that a team can
be down but not out as they bounced back in the MPCA Final to beat Frankston
YCW, as many cricket followers will tell you YCW don’t budge an
inch and they didn’t at all it all went down to the wire but we
were champions again.
What of the other teams and players, who don the whites each week to play
for the Islanders.
Our Third XI had a close finish against French Island getting over the
line by one wicket and another trophy for the cabinet.
Unfortunately that was it the other teams tried hard but no it wasn’t
their year.
The country week team also saw Scott
Phillips be selected in the squad, but like last year missed out on the
final by just 15 runs. Scott had a terrific carnival with the bat and
ball scoring 164 runs @ 41 throughout the carnival including a 75 against
Bendigo.
