Great news for the club, LICC is hosting Ballam Park vs Baxter in the Provincial Firsts Grand Final this weekend and the following Saturday if required. We'll require all hands on deck as the semi-final last weekened was busy enough! Please come up to the club tomorrow night to speak about what we need to do or over the weekend to lend a hand

Well a dissappointing seasons end for the Islanders on the weekend with both the 3rds and 4ths losing there semi finals.
The 3rds just didn't score enough runs on Day 1, a hard fought 46 from Laurence Hall and 44 from Trevor Ryan steadied the ship for a while but both just could last. Ryan Lee carried the tail with 23 before he was caught by Doodles who performed a Superman catch.
Despite half the team staying over the night we just couldn't get the wickets we needed the next day, Bickers bowled a treat and so did RL who was rewarded with 2 wickets (could have been three is Trev could catch) Rosso got our third wicket from a spectacular catch by Laurie Hall. Ryan too was on the wrong end of a catch possibly breaking his little finger. Unfortunately though French Island passed us 3 down.
View Photos from the 3rds Semi Final Against French Island

The 4ths playing Carrum Downs had a few fitness clouds before the game and unfortunately for Khanny he missed out on the day ruling himself unfit, which left the way for Blackers to slot in. We dismissed Carrum Downs for 138 in the 75th over with Buddah 3-36, Craig 3-37, Anton 2-32 and Fish 2-19. Any other day we would think this was gettable but in a final there is always pressure and unfortunately we cracked a little being bowled out for 113 with Webby 25 and Marty Kelly 19 the major run scorers.

So thats the end of the season, we will be holding our Presentation Night on the 5th April (see below)
We will also be holding the B2 Final Heatherhill V Carrum (this is dreaded Heatherhill Team who beat Patty's and BK's team 5 years running) (So lets get up there and support Carrum, they did help our thirds get in the finals)

Ground for Island Semi Finals are as follows:-
3rds: Thompson Oval, French Island
4ths: Banyan Res, Carrum Downs
The Island will also host a Provincial 1sts Semi Final on the weekend Heatherhill V Ballam Park.

An interseting Stat this year is that 2 players Nathan Tapp and Peter Revell have both played in 4 grades
Rev (1sts, 2nds, 3rds & 4ths) and Tappy (2nds, 3rds, 4ths & 5ths)

It's official the 3rds are in the finals. Carrum played some unregistered players and as a result the Island get the points. We play French Island in the Semi's @ French Island.
The 4ths will play Carrum Downs possibly @ Wedge Rd.
More details to follow.

A dissapointed Tom Batty would like to say if he cost the 2nd's a win on the weekend then did Arne cost the 1sts being hit for 18 off the last over???? (This came from Tommy Arne, not me)

Congratulations also to Lamby and Steph for winning the $1000 draw, a great day and I'm sure great night will be had by all.

Well, what can I say a very disappointing Round for the Island, the 1sts batted well first scoring 5/232 (G.Measham 55, J.Stevenson 48, M.Burke 45, N.Kent 34no, P.Conell 32) but Heatherhill managed to chase down the runs by scoring 16 in the last over, with a 4 off the last ball of the day to win. This being Strikers 200th game I'm sure it would be one he would like to forget.
The 2nds on a slow ground scored 132 S.Doolan 49, S.Wisnieski 44 and contained Heatherhill till the end with J.Haley 3/53 and if Tommy could catch they would of won the game.
The 3rds having to win to make the finals contained Carrum to 197 M.Wilson 4/55, N.Ross 3/47 which was a getable score. A to end colapse though so us 10 runs short, T.Ryan 83, L.Hall 30, M.Wilson 20 (have Carrum played some unregistered players ????????????????)
The 4ths as in every year are our only shining light making it to the Semi Finals, in a must win game also they contained Moorooduc to 153 A.Vial 4/21 but easily accounted for the runs losing only 2 wickets with M.Kelly 69no, P.Morrow 63 getting the runs.
The 5ths also playing Moorooduc scored 123 M.Hatch 58, D.Phillips 19, A.Blackshaw 16 but Moorooduc passed our score without losing a wicket.
The 4ths have made the Semi Finals more details to follow.
Don't forget the $1000 draw tomorrow (Sunday)

Junior Presentation is Friday 23rd March

Well done to the U17's on the weekend, despite losing the semi final on the weekend against Langwarrin they didn't stop trying. We posted a very small 10/83 with key players failing with the bat, Peter Revell top scored with 21 and david Maxfield 13. We tried hard with the ball getting a vital breakthrough straight after lunch but we just didn't get enough runs with Langy passing us 9 down. Jared Bailey and david Maxfield both got 3 with the ball with Dave Phillips following up with 2 for.
Congratulations boys on a great year. Well done.

The 1sts continue there great form with a close win against Tyabb, chasing 141 (S.Phillips 4/55 , P.Hartle 4/49) they just crossed the line with Lamby and Bails getting us over the line with Finn top scoring with 41 (Finn also notched up another stat on the main ground scoring the first 5 run.
The 2nds chasing 159 (S.Double 6/34 and S.Hocking 3/21) easily accounted for it with T.Batty 39, D.Maxfield 36, N.Kent 29 and G.Laughlin 20 getting amongst the runs.
The 3rds keep there final hopes alive with a good win against Crib Point, chasing 151 (M.Wilson 4/16 , C.Bicknell 3/44 , R.Lee 2/29) we easily got over the line scoring 6/301 (J.Middleton 73, T.Ryan 61no, C.Werae 46, D.Thompson 44, L.Hall 32). The 3rds still has to rely on Mt Eliza beating Heatherhill next week and them beating Carrum.
The 4ths suffered another defeat, playing Ballam Park who scored 220 (S.Fisher 4/50 , C.McCormack 3/55) we just couldn't get over the line only scoring 185 (B.Kelly 53, D.Larizza 35, D.Worland 34).
The 4ths play Moorooduc in the last game a win will put them in the 4
The 5ths played POB and contained them to 208 (J.Bennett 2/38, D.Phillips 2/36, J.Paxton 2/37) which they chased down thanks to some great batting by Trent Luckman who scored an unbeaten 101 to knotch up his first ton for the club. Great stuff Trent. (Was James Paxton bowled out by a girl??????) Go Shelby!
Two milestones this week Jazzy Jeff 3000 runs and James Bennett 50 wickets.
There has been a change of venue for the 4ths against Moorooduc to Howard Parker Res.

Congratulations to the Under 17 Provincial team who have made the Grand Final.

Good luck to Matthew Roach who plays his 50th game this week.

Despite losing on the weekend the 1st eleven can hold there heads high. Chasing 352 after some big hitting from Hamilton-Smith (Lamby 0/75 off 3), we began the run chase steadily with Stuart McLeod (73) and Potto (28), Potto was the first to go at 50 brining Meash (31) to the crease taking the score to 113. Scooty (13) lbw and then Stuart 5 runs later bought Burke (80no) and Arne (79no) to the crease. Both tried hard to get the runs but we fell 45 short of the target.
The 2nds were well and truly beat only scoring 138 Weare 31 but could only take 3 wickets before Heatherhill passed our score.
The 3rds battled hard scoring 176 of the alloted over Jake Middleton 48no Cadbury 35 and Khanny 31. Our bowlers bowled well Mitch 4/50 & Rosso 3-47 but we just couldn't get them out before they passed our score (despite dropping 3 or 4 and a missed run out both batters at the same end) Catches win matches (the story of the 3rds year)
(After checking the 3rds books when I got home and adding up all the scores we infact won the game LI 177, Langwarrin 176, but after checking all batting and bowling for the Langwarrin innings they infact scored 180 runs) Captains should really check the books before signing off the game.
The 4ths bounced back with a convincing win against Boneo 191 with Macca, Fish and Anton all picking up 2 wickets. We easily passed their score with Grey Scull (59), Webby (61) and a quick knock by Anton (53) getting us over the line.
The 5ths battled hard but couldn't get over the line Aaron Paxton batted well and scored 85no and the bus 54no but we couldn't chase down the runs.

The 4ths look like they have cemented a spot in the finals.
The 3rds now have to rely on other games going there way and winning the last two with Heatherhill taking on Mt Eliza in the last game of the year and Mornington up against French island this week. If both of these teams loose these games and we win our last two we sneak in by 4 points. (It's up to us boys)

I'm having trouble downloading the ladders at the moment but when they are available they will be posted.

Congratulations to Paul Hartle and Trevor Ryan 4000 career runs.

Player Statistics are now up. Click here (missing the 5ths run out, if you know who got it email me at long.islandcc@yahoo.com.au
Go Victory!
LH

Congratulations to Marty Kelly who scored his 5000 run on the weekend.

Some great results for the Islanders in Round 10 with the 1sts narrowly missing out on the outright win against Somerville, the pick of our bowlers were Paul (Arne) Hartle 5/46 and Scotty Phillips 4/39 and in the 2nd innings Arne bagged another 3.
The seconds were led by Potto with the bat 183 and Shane (Doubsy) Double with the ball with 5/40.
The 3rds declared at 7/228 with Trevor Ryan unbeaten on 102, Dave (Cocko) Thompson 59 and
Paul (Cadbury) Morrow 33. Michael (Mitso) Wilson was the pick of the bowlers capturing 3/11 in the first and 4/29 in the second. Like the 1sts the 3rds just couldn't get the wickets against Skye.
The 4ths suffered a shock defeat with a Skye batsmen scoring a 100 probably should have been caught on 99 but Cameron Bicknell ran into Craig McCormack knocking him out. (Hope you are feeling better Macca)
The 5ths played Seaford but despite some good bowling by Michael Hatch 3/5 and some good batting by Andrew Poxon 32 and Marty Kelly 20 we just couldn't get over the line.

5ths Result and Scorecard now in plus 4ths scorecard
Junior Summaries and Scorecards now up.
Sorry still no result for the 5ths posted on MPCA website, and unfortunately I do not have the scorebook for me to be able to put the reult and scorecard in (will find out result ASAP) LH

Please note the following Ground Changes:
Provincial 1’s
Round 11 – Heatherhill v Long Island now at Ballam Park South

Provincial 2’s
Round 11 – Heatherhill v Long Island now at Baxter 6
Round 13 – Heatherhill v Long Island now at Baxter 6

A great individual result for Round 10 from el presidento Potto with 183 a great innings, dissappointment for Burkey though who made 97 on the weekend was he caught over the boundary line?????

Milestone - On the weekend Potto smashed 183 against Somerville in one of the best knocks seen around the club for a long time. In doing so, he passed 8,000 career runs for LICC which is a magnificent achievement… Well done our little Greek boy

View Round 13 Summary (5ths)

If something is missing from the website or you just want to comment about it, you can do so at long.islandcc@yahoo.com.au, we would love to here your comments.

Milestone - Everyones favourite clubman Joel ‘Tugga’ Stephensons is playing his 150th game this week. He credits getting to this milestone by playing the game always in right spirit, that spirit being as happy as a 13 year old boy in a handcream factory, fitting really…. Good work Tug Tom Baldy

Rossos run watch is back - it’s been found that he actually hasn’t made a run on the main land since 2001, he’s a offshore gun, onshore battler…

Player Statistics should now be fully updated, sorry for this inconvienience (Khanny, Wizza, Mitcha), if you had told me earlier I could have updated it earlier. LH

Congratulations To Clint who became a father for the second time yesterday after the birth of his son Mitchell William Otto, wife and son and doing well.

Congratulations also to Trev Ryan who has taken over the Captaincy of the 3rds in Hally's absence.

Player Statistics Up To date After Round 9 (R12 5ths) Click Here

Some great person performances for round 9 none greater than in the 4ths with Chris (Budah) Hocking who demolished Delacombe Park by getting 7/35 in the 1st innings and 5/34 in the 2nd while Ryan Lee 2/42 1st and 4/30 2nd innings in the same game. Talking about the same game David (Grey Skull) Worland took an inpressive 6 catches and 1 run out in the same game which must be some sort of record.
With the bat it was left to David (Woggo) Larizza 83no and Marty Kelly 54. A greta outright win.
After this great win it now puts the 4ths in top spot 8 points ahead of Langwarrin and Carrum Downs.
In the 1sts Scotty Phillips scored 81 while Meash was unbeaten on 62. Good to see Wizza making a well compiled 30. The win now puts us in 8th spot with 36 points, well out of relegation zone. (great stuff boys)
In the 2nds James Haley took 6/90 with the ball but just couldn't get the 7th, thanks Tugga, while with the bat Stuart Doolan continues to make runs with 63 while Potto scored a well needed 52 and Tugga 34no. The win now puts us in 6th position but 24 points (2 games) out of the top four.
The 3rds would probably like to forget this game against Red Hill, in a rain affected game we scored 168 with Richard Hall top scoring with 55, Mitcha 34 and Paul (Cadbury) Morrow 24 but our bowlers just couldn't get the wickets with only 2 taken.
Despite the loss, results went our way with us holding onto 4ths spot on the ladder 4 points ahead of Heatherhill and Mornington.
The 5ths also would love to have forgotten this game, chasing leather all innings against Skye who scored a very impressive 2/322. Our batters couldn't repeat the total with Nathan (Bus) Baldwin top scoring with 42, while Evan (Twiggy) Dexter chipped in with 22 and captain couragous James Benned 26.
The 5ths have been battling hard and are in 9th spot on the ladder.
Round 10 will make or break a few teams especially the the 3rds in a must win situation but without captain Richard Hall who has to look after his children for the rest of the season due to his wife going back to work and Travis Kellerman returning to school cricket. Two tough spots to fill.
Not to mention the rule of no fees paid in full no play also coming into affect this round.

LICC is hosting the final of the Jack Peacock Cup Final on Sunday between Heatherhill & Baxter from 10:30am onwards. We encourage you to get up to the club in your club colours and help out where possible whether it be behind the bar, behind the bbq or behind the bowlers arm sledging….

New trip away date - Thursday April 19 to Sunday April 22. We are going to Adelaide. Cost estimate coming soon. Please register your interest on the board up the club or to me. We are starting fundraising with Schindlers List every Thursday night. Details about the game on the night but all you need to know is that Trev Ryan is running it and funnily enough won on the 1st night it was run.

Continue to get your fees in - the Fees sub-committee will be on your back if you don’t and no-one wants Meash on your back literally so best you pay up.

Milestone - Shane “Dubbsy” Double took his 100th wicket last game for the club. The young leggie who credits bowling leggies to the lesser known Shane has been a consistent performer in the 2nds for awhile now and I look forward to dropping more catches off him so I can keep getting tail-enders out.

Player facts are now fully updated. Click Here

Continue to get your fees in - the Fees sub-committee will be on your back if you don’t and no-one wants Meash whinging to them so best you pay up.

Congratulations to Shane Double who got his 100th wicket on the weekend,David Larizza who got his 1000 run, Scott Phillips who got his 2000th run

The 1sts had a great win on the weekend, in a very close game coming down to the last over, we got over the line with some great bowling from Lamby 4-23 and Swifty 3-67, but it was Arne who set up the win with an unbeaten 86 with great support from Flipper with 42. This win pushe us up the ladder to third last after Mornington lost on the weekend. (A great result for the Islanders)
In Meash's 50th 1st team game he unfortunately made a blob but did throw the ball to direct hit the stumps to win the game.
Unfortunately the 2nds were defeated despite some great batting by Wizza 73.
The 3rds were also defeated despite some good batting by Weare 59, Laurie Hall 40no, Hally 39 and Cocko 32. Our bowler couldn't get us over the line though with Mt Eliza only losing 2 wickets (dropping numerous catches though doesn't help) despite the loss we are still in 3rd position.
The 4ths had a great win against Carrum Downs bowling them out for 112 with Budah taking 5/37 and in reply only losing two wickets to past their score Woggo 55 and Budah 40no.
In Marty Kelly's 200th game he took a catch, dropped a catch and didn't bat.
The 5ths in another close game went down to YCW despite containing YCW to 120 with some great bowling from James Bennet 5/8, Trevor Allcott 3/15 we just couldn't get the runs failing by 8 (James Bennett 26no and James Paxton 25)

A Junior milestone worthy of a mention is that of Jarad Bailey who has just past 100 wickets and 1000 runs in his junior career. Although records of the Juniors are not fully up to date, there wouldn't be too many if any past players who would have reached this feat.
Well done Jarad!

Well done also to Jayden grose who scored 105 in the Under 17's on Sunday, his first Junior ton for the club and David Maxfield taking 5/32 will the ball.
Well done also to the Under 15's who won outright with Jake Middleton again making some runs and Aaron Paxton taking 5/12 with the ball.

We sadly went along to the funeral of Damian on Tuesday. It was well attended by LICC people and Damians family would like to pass on their thanks for showing our support and the guard of honour that we provided. Details of a fundraiser for Damians fiancé and child to come soon.

Continue to get your fees in - the Fees sub-committee will be on your back if you don’t and no-one wants Meash whinging to them so best you pay up.

Milestones

Marty Kelly, an LICC stalwart is playing his 200th game for LICC this weekend. It’s only taken him until Round 8 to play it after Laurie mentions it every week that his next game is his 200th. Congratulations, a massive effort from our little mud guts.

Gary Measham, the man with the golden gun is playing his 50th first XI game this week. Congrats Gary, I’m sure we’ll hear all about it on Saturday night.

New trip away date - Thursday April 19 to Sunday April 22. We are still going to Adelaide. Cost estimate coming soon. Please register your interest on the board up the club or to me.

Good luck on the weekend.

Long Island regretfully has to inform its members & supporters of the loss of Damien DesBarres who sadly passed away in a workplace accident early yesterday morning. We pass on our thoughts to his fiancée Jacinta, their baby daughter Brianna and their families.

Damien had played for LICC since the 1989/90 season where he played in the Under 14s and then started playing senior cricket in 1990/91 where he played 176 games. Damien scored 3699 runs at an average of 25.51 with 229 wickets at 20.64 making him one of the most successful all-rounders the club has had. Damien was a 3 time senior premiership player & 1 time junior premiership player and the 147th player at LICC to play First XI cricket.

All LICC teams will be wearing black armbands in memory of Damien this coming game. The committee will be investigating a way of lending a hand to the families at this hard time.

No funeral arrangements have been announced as yet but we will let you know as soon as details come to hand for those of you wishing to pay Damien your respects.

Trip away change of date - new date to be announced shortly. We are still going to Adelaide.

Milestones - Clint Otto brought up his 2000th run on the weekend against Langwarrin with a eye catching 63. Must have been that time he spent in bed on Friday after calling in sick after a late night up the club Thursday night

Congratulations to Clint Otto for scoring his 2000th run for the club and to Joel Stevenson, the first Diamond Duck of the season (Yes, Yes, No (Go Scotty)).

Some mixed results for the Islanders in Round 7 with the 1sts and 2nds both losing despite S.Phillips 52, M.Burke 33, M.Sargant 27 in the first and C.Otto 63, S.Doolan 60, D.Maxfield 35 and M.Godfrey 32 in the 2nds.
The 3rds had a great win against Mornington with T.Ryan 93, T.Kellerman 55, C.Weare 53no and R.Hall 53 making the runs, while the 4ths playing Heatherhill couldn't get the Outright despite bowling them out for 88 in the first Innings.

LICC Cocktail Night - This Saturday 16 December from 8pm onwards….

We’ll have a selection of cocktails, shooters and mixers with some nibbles provided and we encourage all to wear a Hawaiian shirt! Let’s continue on from the last function with another great turn out and another great night to finish up before Christmas.

Cocktail menu to run similar to the International beers night… $25 for the 5 as they are brought out or $5 individually.

A very hot R7 on the weekend with the 1sts, 2nds and 3rds all fielding and all chasing a bit of leather.
Swifty in the 1sts was the shining light with 6/86 with the Islanders now chasing 291 for victory.
The 2nds saw James Haley take 4/79 with Steve Hocking 3/64 and Damian DesBarres 3/63 but chasing 300 next week.
In the 3rds it was the Mitcha show again with Michael taking another bag full with 6/55, but chasing 306 next week. The 4ths being the only team to bat had a field day with James Khan scoring 108 in the heat (wearing shorts I might add) and Anton coming in and scoring a quick fire 120 not out.
The 5ths again had a close match against Heatherhill scoring 172 S.Paxton 56, J.Paxton 37,
J.Middleton 29, but couldn't contain them despite some good bowling by J.Middleton 4/33 (should he be playing higher ??????)
With the temperature expected to be just as high next week there should be some interesting results.

Congratulations to the following players for eaching milestones in Round 6:
Milestones

Neil ‘Striker’ Kent scored his 4,000 LICC run last week. Whether he’s counting the beans, putting his hand up a horses …. or standing at mid off telling you where to bowl, he’ll always be there for you. Well done Strickland, keep the runs coming

Michael Wilson, the man who bakes our bread at our local Safeway took his 150th wicket on the weekend with a well flighted left arm through the umpire delivery that kicked and turned the wrong way.

Buddha Hocking, brother of Steven, also took his 150th wickets this year. The past 3 years have been wicket heaven for Buddha down in the 4s, lookout to those above him.

A man who enjoys cricket and eating buses is playing his 50th game this week, one of LICCs loyal sons, Nathan Baldwin. He always shows his appreciation for the Island straight from his hip pocket, whether it be the 15 Jim Beams he drinks every time he’s there or the money he hands over at cards.

Alex Blackshaw 1st hundred for the club
Richard Hall 3rd hundred for the club

What a Round for the Islanders with the 1sts, 2nds, 3rds & 4ths all coming away with a win while the 5ths played out another tie against Baden Powell.
Some great performances

A good weekend for the Islanders the 1sts have got off to a good start 10/196 with S.Phillips 86, G.Measham 45 and N.Kent 29. The 2nds are in a good position scoring 223 D.DesBarres 68, B.Bailey 45 and M.Godfrey 36. The 3rds have already won bowling Crib Point out for 119 R.Lee 4/55, A.Jones 3/25 and batting and making 2/196 R.Hall 118no, L.Hall 40no (outright on the cards?????). The 4ths played the Bandicoots and bowled them out for 140 C.Hocking 5/50, B.Kelly 3/25 and in reply are 42 D.Larizza 30no and the 5ths lost against Moorooduc scoring 172 with the bat S.Paxton 56, J.Paxton 37 and J.Middleton 29 was just not enough with Moorooduc passing them 3 down.

I must apologise for the delay in updating the website, while over the seas I caught the dreaded Gastro bug so spent all of Suday in and out of the toilet.
Overall Round 5 was very disappointing with only one win (2nds) and a draw (5ths)
The firsts chasing 312 always new it was going to be hard but with a good start from Meash 76 and Burke 73 we were well on the way, Scotty finally got some runs with 46 and Sarge finished it up with 35, we came close but were short by 30 runs.
The 2nds on the other hand had a great win, defending 223 (Desse 90, Tom 63) we kept Mornington to 189 (Desse 3/47, Doubsey 3/50 and Boo 3/40)
The 3rds who travelled over the seas to French Island new it was always going to be hard with only 182 (Striker 41, R.Lee 34) on the board, we did however get one wicket over night. We were travelling fairly well but countless drop catches(around 5 or 6) cost us dearly with the Islanders getting over the line with 8 overs to spare. Rosso 3/62 (36 overs) was the pick of the bowlers, but mention must go to R.Lee who off one leg managed to bowl 14 straight in a very unlucky spell of bowling.
View photos from the game Week 2 and View photos from the game Week 1
The 4ths played Somerville and bowled them out for 192 Budah 3/71, Milo 348, but their batting was a little disappointing with Somerville bowling us out for 151 (Anton 56, Tappy 32)
The 5ths played Peninsula Old Boys and came away with a draw 233 each with new comer Marty O'Brien 6/59 and Nathan Baldwin 85, Michael Phillips 41, Cronky 32. A very entertaining game.

Congratulations to Paul Hartle who on the weekend got his 400th 1st team wicket for the club. It now puts him 30 wickets behind Peter Worland for the all time Long Island Record of 430 wickets.

Rosso’s Run Watch - Congratulations must also go to Nathan Ross who scored his first run for many seasons on the weekend against French Island. Finally the duck has been broken. After taking on the captaincy in the absence of Hally, Rosso took it up to the French Island attack slaying a well timed 8 runs. Well done Rosso on making your first LICC run for close to 6 years which takes your run total up to 467 for your career.

Long Island History With the New Ground

Sorry for the late update of the website, I have been on holidays.
Little success for the club in Round 4, congratulations to Striker who after one training can come out and score an unbeaten 134 (it must be mention that after one training session last year Striker also can out and scored an unbeaten 123 against Mt Eliza) (it shows training is not for all)
Despite a galant 92 Arne couldn't get us over the line, a middle and top order batting slump must be overcome for the 1sts to record their first win, lets hope its this week against Mornington.
The 2nds came close but just couldn't get over the line Stevie again made runs with the bat 41 (could he be the answer in the One's.)
The 3rds had another great result with Hally 26 and Cocko 42 getting us off to a great start, Striker continued the runs to get us over the line.
The unbeaten 4ths played last years finalist that being Langwarrin and unfortunately came off second best despite Paul (Cadbury) Morrow scoring 73 against his old club.
The 5ths came alot closer this week against Mt Eliza with U15 J.Middleton 73, A.Blackshaw 35 A.Paxton 33.
A disappointing Round for the Island lets hope next this week will be better, the 1sts are away to Mornington, the 3rds are playing over the seas at French Island (bring on that afternoon tea), the 4ths Somerville at home and the 5ths Crib Point also at home, lets hope we can have a much better Round 5.

Brendan Kelly after his massive knock of 188 last week is now celebrating his 150th game. Beeks has been a mainstay of the lower grades plundering runs, knocking up triplets and last year captained the 4ths to the flag… plus he’s a Saints supporter so he’s got to be a good fella.

Nathan Ross, yes the little off spinner who wears a hat whilst bowling is playing his 150th game this week. He’s shared in some big moments at LICC, none other than holding down an end in a Provincial 1s Grand Final whilst Arnie hit that 6. Not only was he 0* that game, he’s been on 0 runs since March 2001. Well done Rosso, you’re a true story about a man who has succeeded even whilst vertically challenged. Keep on chucking them up…

Nathan Baldwin the gentle giant plays his 50th game this week, congratulations to the man commonly known as the ‘Bus Eater’. There are 3 things in life he loves - Picture magazine, eating buses and LICC and that’s why we like him. All the best on the big game Nath.

Welcome to young Travis Kellerman who is playing his first senior game for the club this week in the 3rd XI. We look forward to a great career from the young fella.

Rosso’s Run Watch - Nathan Ross, the vertically challenged off spinner who wears his hat whilst bowling has a big target this season, to make a singular run because it’s been a long time between drinks. Here’s a little bit more info from the man himself on when he last made a run for the Islanders ‘Seconds GF 2001, remember it like it was yesterday. An unbeaten 12 batting at no. 10. Well on my way to a ton before bloody Trumby threw his wicket away. Mind you I was given not out first ball when I cleary edged the ball to the keeper who took it in front of third slip. Always good to have your old man doing the umpiring appointments.’ So let’s get behind the boy and get him in the runs….

A mixed bag of results for the weekend, the 1sts still can't get their first win despite some excellent batting by Burke 63, Meash 36 and Tugger 29 lets hope next week against Sorrento will be the turn around.
The seconds had a great win led all the way by Chocky Moose who bowled a treat and was rewarded with a 7/28, in the second dig Scrappy in his 200th game came out blazing with 86, while Wizza chipped in with 33no.
The thirds travelled down to Carrum and the spin twins no not Laurie Hall but Rosso and Mitso bowled a treat also to get 4/52 and 4/43 respectively, a good win by the thirds despite 4 or 5 catches gong down.
The fourths where led by BK who scored the first ton on the new ground with 188 to take his tally to 5 equall to his brother, some other great efforts where Anton 67, Buddah 57, Cadbury 53, Trevor Allcott 25 and Hatchy 23. Another great win by the fourths. The team just missed out on the highest score for the 4ths with 431 the record is 444 against Delacombe Park in the 94/95 season.
The 5ths played Seaford Tigers thirds which was always going to be a challenge, and that it was all out for 80 chasing 215, some good batting though from Nick Metlicar 24 and James Bennett 20.
Some good solo performances this week, well done to all.
Next week are one dayers due to cup weekend.

A belated congratulations to the following milestones;

  • Stuart Doolan is currently playing his 200th game. Scrappy as he is affectionately known as, has been a long time servant at LICC plundering plenty of runs and clocking up plenty of hours balancing our books and working behind the bar. He was the man behind the scenes in the introduction of the Messiah (tap beer). Known to stalk nightclub dancefloors in his spare time. Good work Snappy!
  • Brad Bailey played his 50th game last week in Round 2. Having had a couple of years off down the beach trying his luck with the ladies in the summer, Bails is back opening the batting in the 3rds with good results. He credits his new found form to his boss at work who’s an inspiration.
  • Boo Hocking scored his 1000th run for the club on the weekend with a well played 25, not quite 32 but he did the job.

5ths selection for Round 3 V Seaford Tigers
Daniel Hompot, Nick Metlicar, Aaron Paxton, Jake Middleton, Adam Cronk, Nathan Baldwin, Nathan Tapp, David Phillips, James Bennett, James Paxton, Michael Phillips.

Congratulations to Under 17’s David Maxfield who is debuting in the 1st XI this week. Dave will be the 153rd player to play in our senior side. A great effort which resulted from doing every pre-season session and starting the season amongst the wickets and the runs. Well done Maxy and best of luck.

Keep Melbourne Cup Eve (November 6) free for an LICC function… more details to come shortly. Rosso will be doing another phantom call.

Trivia Night - November 25, put it in your diaries and more details to follow… start thinking about your tables

We are going to Adelaide for the trip away, please see Moose for more details… dates to be confirmed shortly with an estimated cost. Fundraising for the trip away will also start next week.

Have a look on our website www.longislandcc.com Laurie has done a magnificent job and keeps it up to date with statistics etc and there are photos of the first game of each side on the new ground.

A big congratulation also goes out to Tommy Batty for actually leaving the club last night with more money than he walked in with. A first for Tommy over the past few years… good things come to those who wait Tom and you’re a real credit to that.

Best of luck this week to all teams in the two day format of the game…

There is a bit of controversy over the first caught and bowled on the Pitch 2 at Ballam park in the 4ths, according to the scorebooks David Larizza did not get a caught and bowled but after speaking to people and an email that Moose has sent around he may have, if anyone can shed some light on this, please email me at long.islandcc@yahoo.com.au otherwise Cameron Bicknell has the 1st Caught and bowled on the ground. I look forward to your emails. (L.H.)

The 1sts and 2nds are still to register a win this season, the 2nds in a thriller went down in the last over in the day, a great fightback by Boo Hocking with 89 got the 2's out of trouble with the bat, but we just couldn't contain Ballam Park despite Maxy's 5/42. The 1sts on the other hand contained Ballam Park to 195 off the 40 overs, but a mid order collapse cost us dearly with a score of 132 all out, Sarge and lamby held the innings together with 26 and 28 respectively. The 3's started off their campaign with a good win over Heatherhill a good start by Brad Bailey 44 and Laurence Hall 38no and Bickers 24 got the 3's to a respectable score of 182. The bowlers then bowled well led by Bickers with a handy 4/10 and Mitso with 3/40. The 4ths continue there messy way with a good win over Moorooduc, a handy return by Anton who got 3/38 kept Moorooduc to 171, (Budah the new keeper with a stumping and caught behind), but it was the Khanny and Hatchy show with Khanny scoring an unbeaten 72 and Hatchy 50 exactly. The 5ths had a Bye due to Carrum dropping out.

View Round 2 Photographs of 2nds and 3rds

Next week the 1's (Away) and 2's have Tyabb, the 3's Carrum (Away), the 4's Mt Eliza and the 5ths kick off their 2006-07 campaign against Seaford at the old home of cricket Havana.

Long Island History With the New Ground

Late breaking news the 5ths are not playing this week, they have a bye.

Firsts and Seconds this week are up against Ballam Park, with Stuart Swift possible breaking a bone in his leg Geoff Laughlin has stepped up to play in the ones, good luck Jazzy. Tom Batty in the 2's this week plays his 50 game. Well done to Trevor Ryan, Chris Weare and Paul Morrow fo being selected in the 3's and welcome back to Nathan Ross and Ryan Lee who are also both in the 3's. Good luck also to James Bennett who is captaining the 5ths this season.
Well done to Scott Phillips who got his 150 wicket for the club last week against Baxter.
Good luck to all teams, its a 12:30 start for all grades, let bring home 5 wins.

Long Island History With the New Ground

I am having a lot of trouble getting onto the MPCA website, and a a result I haven't been able to obtain and ladders, all Team Scorecards and Grade Summaries are available. Hopefully I will be able to rectify this problem, when the MPCA website becomes available. (L.H.)

Change in fixture - 4th XI will be playing Moorooduc now at Baxter 3 in Round 2.

A disappointing start to the new year with only the 4ths getting over the line. In front of a big crowd at the new home of the island the 1sts came very close but just couldn't get over the line despite Finny scoring 48, Meash 38 and Arne 58no and 3/54 and returning Scotty 4/50. The seconds chasing 143 couldn't get them despite Damian scoring 45, while the 3rds had a mid order collapse after a great start by Richard Hall and Cocko to be all out for 108 a very hard score to defend, while the unstoppable 4ths continued there winning way by easily defeating French Island on the new ground with Trevor Ryan returning to the club and scoring 61 and newcomer Paul Morrow scored 39. Commiserations for the Round must go to Laurence Hall who in his 200th Game made the First Duck for the Club for the season (although he did take a spectacular catch in the out field but didn't get a bowl, overall a match to forget)

Welcome to 2006/2007 season at Long Island Cricket Club. We’ve had great numbers at pre-season and I’m sure everyone is keen to start tomorrow with sunny weather forecasted. Welcome back to some old faces, welcome to the new faces and welcome to the recycled faces.

Saturday night isn’t a function but let’s make sure everyone gets up to the club to celebrate the new ground and a new era of Long Island.

At 11:15am tomorrow will be the opening of the ground by the Mayor of Frankston. We ask all of you to get to the new ground and be there for this big occasion in Long Islands history. We now have 2 grounds side by side. A great effort by all involved. If you didn’t get the local paper this week, get up to the club noticeboard and have a look at Arnie making love to the pitch.

New club gear is out and about. Everyone is looking good. I even heard Horse tell a few people to come see how good he looks in the new polo. $100 gets you the full kit ie playing shirt, polo shirt and shorts. Compulsory for 1st & 2nd XI players so buy buy buy and show off our sponsors.

In the off-season, Tugga has had a massive sponsorship drive as well as becoming half Thai. Have a look on the bottom of this email to see all our sponsors and make sure you support them.

Welcome to the 2006/07 Season, lets hope we have a much better season in all grades this year. It is with excitement that we wait for the first home game to be able to use our two new grounds, which look fantastic. With the availability of two teams playing at home at the same time, it should only add to the atmosphere at the club and see more players hang around after their game to support the others.
We welcome some players back to the Island they are Scott Phillips, Richard Hall and new player Paul Morrow.
A few players will reach milestones in the first round of the season they are:
Laurence Hall 200 games
Mark Sargant 150 games
Geoff Laughlan 100 games, we wish each player best of luck.

LICC Working Bee

LICC is having a working bee this Saturday 17 June from 9am onwards. We will be throwing out as much as possible, working on the bar, and getting the side room ready for the indoor net. We will need as much as help as possible so get on down there Saturday. After we do our work at the club, we will be heading over to Karingal vs Mornington at the Bullpit to have a few beers and lend our support in a must win clash so get on down to the Long Island hill...

In the off-season, we're looking at improving the rooms further, with tap beer on its way & the construction of an indoor net facility about to take place. We also will have new gear for onfield & off-field. The ground is also very well on its way to being completed. Next time you're driving past the club, pop in and have a look at that grass grow!

Friday Night Footy / Soccer

Friday 30 June LICC will be opening its doors to its first football/soccer night. LICC will open at 7:30pm where we'll be ordering dinner and watching the Kangaroos play the Bombers at the Dome. After that, it'll be the first quarter final of the 2006 Soccer World Cup on the big screen.... This is a pre-season get together and you are expected to attend.
